A shootout in Fairmount, North Dakota, came down to a fumble near the goal line on Friday, Aug. 28.

Enderlin-Maple Valley, North Dakota, was a yard away from regaining the lead against Tri-State on second and goal, but a mishandled snap was recovered by the Tigers and they ran the clock out for a 46-44 win.

The teams went back and forth all night in Tri-State’s first victory of the season. It was also their home opener.

Brandon Gruenwald took on a larger role as a rusher after being utilized as a wide receiver primarily in the season opener. The Tiger playmaker rushed in three scores and also caught a touchdown. He had 10 carries for 185 yards.

Derick Carl also ran in a pair of scores from his QB spot, while also completing 10-12 of his pass attempts for over 100 yards.

Tri-State (1-1) hits the road to face Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page, North Dakota, at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.
