Breckenridge guard Emily Gowin and Cowgirls head coach Tony Bogenreif
Breckenridge High School graduate Emily Gowin is slated to sign her commitment to play college basketball at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton.
Gowin, who helped Breckenridge finish as Section 6A runner-up last season, posted senior averages of 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals while starting all 30 games for the 22-8 Cowgirls.
Gowin joins the NJCAA Division I Lady Wildcats after earning Heart O’ Lakes All-Conference honors last winter. The dynamic guard returned after missing her entire junior campaign with a knee injury, forming a three-headed monster in the Breckenridge backcourt alongside College of St. Benedict signee Parker Yaggie and fellow NDSCS signee Johnica Bernotas.
Gowin provided solid two-way contributions while shooting 42 percent overall and 33 percent from beyond the arc. The shifty guard scored double-digit points on 17 occasions and surpassed 20 points twice. She scored a team-high 21 points in a 67-52 section championship loss vs. Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, and dropped a team-high 20 points in a 71-51 road win at No. 5-ranked Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
NDSCS is coming off a 23-6 season that included a 12-1 home record at Ed Werre Arena. Head coach Bryant Friskop and the Lady Wildcats won the Region XIII title in his 2024-25 debut season.
Gowin and the Cowgirls were featured in KBMW’s full-length documentary “Cowgirl Country,” which chronicles the entire 2025-26 Breckenridge girls basketball season.
