Cowgirls open playoffs with 77-25 win over Ashby

The Breckenridge Cowgirls came out swinging Thursday in the Section 6A Girls Basketball Tournament, building a 56-8 halftime lead on their home floor and eliminating Ashby with a 77-25 victory. 

Breckenridge junior Ana Spear led all scorers with 17 points. Senior guard Emily Gowin hit back-to-back threes to start the contest on her way to 16 points and a game-high five steals. Senior guard Johnica Bernotas scored 13.

The junior post duo of Sienna Fobb and Mariah Koltes performed seamlessly while splitting time. Fobb contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Koltes supplied four points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

The No. 2 Cowgirls (20-7) will host No. 7 Lake Park-Audubon at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Section 6A Quarterfinals, with a trip to the semifinal round in Minnewaska awaiting the winner. The Cowgirls previously defeated the Raiders, 73-60, in their lone matchup at LPA.
