The No. 4-ranked Wahpeton Huskies took down Valley City in a 68-48 road win Thursday. The Huskies led 36-24 at the break before busting it open with a 24-12 third quarter.
Sophomore guard Jack Gilbertson led the way with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Senior guard Brayden Steffens supplied 18 points and a game-high six assists on 7-of-15 shooting.
Senior center Alex Comings had another solid game inside, posting nine points, four rebounds, three steals and a block. Junior guard Aiden Bontjes stepped up with nine points, three assists and a game-high four steals.
Zander Compson (13 points), Collin Compson (11 points) and Andrew Sykora (10 points) paced the Hi-Liners. Collin Compson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while Jack Dieterle narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Wahpeton (14-5, 6-4) needs Central Cass to beat Oak Grove to secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Region 1 Tournament. Valley City (3-15, 0-11) remains last place in the region standings.
