Blades drop defensive battle in overtime, 3-2

The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Blades lost a 3-2 overtime contest against Fergus Falls on Tuesday at Stern Sports Arena. The Blades fell to 10-12-1 on the season and the Otters improved to 9-15-0. 

Fergus Falls netted two power play goals and a short-handed goal. Tanner Donaghue assisted Quinn Wynn-Sheldon on the winning power play at 3:18 of the bonus period. Fergus Falls put 27 shots on goal and the Blades had 15 shots.

The Blades team cut the lead in half in the second period on a power play goal from Jaxson Lopez, assisted by Gracin Kaste. Kaste’s goal at 11:19 of the third period tied the game at 2-2, assisted by Charlie Ekren and Lopez earned assists.

Holden Stenstrom had 13 saves in the Fergus Falls net. Cale Gilbertson had 24 saves for the Blades.
