Breckenridge’s Johnica Bernotas put the game away Friday with clutch free-throw shooting after Hawley cut a double-digit deficit to five in the final minutes
The Breckenridge Cowgirls earned a season sweep of the Hawley Nuggets with a 65-57 road win Friday. Breckenridge improved to 15-7 overall and 9-4 in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference. Hawley fell to 12-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play.
Johnica Bernotas led the Cowgirls with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Five of her rebounds came on the offensive glass. The senior guard knocked down 6 of 7 free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
Emily Gowin also scored 15 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers. Parker Yaggie did a little bit of everything, supplying 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and five steals.
Sienna Fobb scored 10 points as part of Breckenridge’s two-headed attack in the paint. Mariah Koltes made her impact felt on defense with four rebounds and three blocks.
Ava Jaehning was a consistent backcourt contributor with six points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals. Piper Jaehning added six points and a pair of assists.
Following Perham’s 80-74 loss to Frazee on Friday, Breckenridge sits one game out of first place in the HOL loss column behind Frazee and Perham with three conference games left. Frazee has key games remaining against Hawley and Pelican Rapids, while Perham heads to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton to end the season.
Breckenridge closes conference play with matchups against Barnesville, Park Rapids Area and Staples-Motley.
