Piper Nelson outpaced her season scoring average (15.5 ppg) to help Wahpeton outlast Central Cass
The Wahpeton Lady Huskies held on Thursday for an electric 73-69 overtime win against Central Cass inside the Dawg Den. Central Cass erased a 10-point deficit, but Wahpeton scored the game’s final five points to secure a season sweep of the Squirrels.
Piper Nelson led the way for Wahpeton with a game-high 23 points. The eighth grader knocked down a deep three with 13 seconds left in the bonus period to seal the win.
Claire Woods closed with 16 points, including a pair of clutch free-throws with five seconds remaining in overtime to make it a two-possession game.
Ashlynne Max, Ella Langenwalter and Cambri Mauch added nine points apiece in a balanced effort for Wahpeton.
The victory comes at a key time in the schedule, as Central Cass (8-7, 4-5) trailed Wahpeton (7-7, 6-3) by one game for the second spot in the region prior to Thursday’s loss.
