Harold Phillip Lawrence, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the Sanford Hospice House in Fargo ND.
Harold was born February 4, 1945 in Veblen SD, the son of Leonard and Irma (Cubis) Lawrence. He attended school in Lidgerwood, ND. He played football in his high school years, graduating in 1963. Harold worked on the family farm near Geneseo, until purchasing his own a mile away. From his first marriage, Harold had daughters Christa and Donna. Harold was later united with Kay Otterson on Jan 17, 1976. They had one daughter Jill. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage.
Harold was a successful farmer growing wheat, corn and soybeans, while also tending a dairy herd producing Grade A milk until July 1997 when the herd was sold. He continued to farm until 2014 when he retired.
During Harold’s years in Geneseo he was part of a pool league where he perfected some amazing trick shots, the Kingston Township Board supervisor and enjoyed being a regular member and elder at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He loved dancing, driving around Lake Tewaukon, looking at his crops, hunting and fishing. Other favorites included the Green Bay Packers, winning a bet, laughing at bad jokes & sharing great stories with family and friends.
In 2010, a dream was realized of owning lake property, found on Rush Lake near Perham MN. His family would grow to include the many friends & neighbors from the lake. He became part of a family that had block parties, progressive dinners, happy hours in neighbor Bill’s garage, and get-togethers around his own bon fire pit. Harold worked hard here in a new kind of harvest – canning sauerkraut. His greatest pleasure was taking his crew out on the pontoon cruising the lake while listening to a Roy Orbison CD.
Preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Irma Lawrence, brother Ralph Lawrence and sisters Adeline (Dale) Webb and MaryAnn Lawrence.
He is survived by his wife Kay (Otterson) Lawrence; daughters Christa (Chris) Lawrence-Weers, Donna (Kenny) Heley and Jill (Matthew) Weers; grandchildren Chase (Chelsie) Heley and Levi Heley; brother Allen Lawrence, sister Elaine (Tom) Anglo and brother-in-law Dale Webb, and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
