The Wahpeton Lady Huskies faced another top team when they visited the Kindred Lady Vikings on Thursday. Wahpeton made it a game with an 18-10 third quarter, but the Vikings hung on for a 68-61 win.
Wahpeton (5-5, 4-2 Region 1) was led by 20 points from eighth grade point guard Piper Nelson. The sharpshooter was 7 of 14 from the field and made 2 of 4 tries from three-point distance. Sophomore forward Claire Woods completed the double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 10 of 12 at the foul line.
Kindred (8-2, 4-1 Region 1) received 53 points from Liza Trenbeath (28) and Siera Nipstad (25). The duo attempted 50 of Kindred’s 71 shots, knocking down half of them.
The Lady Huskies gear up for Saturday’s Border Battle against the Breckenridge Cowgirls at 4:30 p.m. on B 92.7 FM and KBMW News Live. The game will be played at North Dakota State College of science, following the 2:30 p.m. boys game.
