Free throw troubles plague Huskies in 57-53 road loss at Oak Grove

The Wahpeton boys basketball team couldn’t overcome a terrible night at the charity stripe Tuesday, falling to Oak Grove 57-53 on the road. The Huskies made 9 of 23 free-throw attempts in the Region 1 matchup. 

Wahpeton was led by 19 points from Jack Gilbertson. The sophomore was 7 of 18 from the field and buried 2 of 5 three-point attempts. 

Senior center Alex Comings continued his recent success with an impactful game. Comings closed with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting, while leading all players with 11 rebounds and six steals.

Brayden Steffens added nine points and Aiden Bontjes scored eight. Treyton King was also involved with six points and eight rebounds.

The Grovers were led by 14 points from Ryder Soper and 12 points from Pierce Thompson. William Olson collected eight points and 10 rebounds.

Wahpeton (5-3) returns to action Thursday in a road game against the No. 1-ranked Kindred Vikings (7-0).
