Bernotas reaches 1,000 points as Cowgirls topple Cardinals

Johnica Bernotas celebrates her 1,000th point with an excited group of young fans

The Breckenridge Cowgirls moved to 8-5 on the season Friday following a 77-46 home win vs. Staples-Motley.

Breckenridge senior Johnica Bernotas became the seventh player in team history to eclipse 1,000 career points when she buried a three before the halftime horn.

Bernotas scored 10 straight points to close the half with 15, as the Cowgirls took a 40-16 lead into the locker room. The versatile guard finished with a game-high 20 points.

Parker Yaggie added another impressive box score with 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and seven deflections. 

Ana Spear was locked in from deep, knocking down 3 of 6 three-pointers and finishing with 11 points. Emily Gowin joined the backcourt scoring with 11 and Sienna Fobb added 10 points and five boards in the paint. 

Breckenridge hosts Perham on Tuesday in a rematch of the season opener, an overtime game the Yellowjackets won at home, 77-69.
