Southern Valley Figure Skating Club had a busy December. The Advanced Team participated in three U.S. Figure Skating test sessions, the Learn to Skate skaters had their first competition, and the Club hosted the Holiday Exhibition.

Test session results: Abbigael Krump passed the Dutch Waltz and Ellsye Herberg passed the ChaCha at the Roseville Figure Skating Club’s Virtual Test session on Oct. 27.

Siddalee Schillinger passed Pre-Preliminary Skating Skills, Ellsye Herberg passed Preliminary Skating Skills, Paisyn Hammond passed Bronze Skating Skills, Ava Peterson passed Silver Skating Skills, and Adeliade King and Sophie Peterson passed Pre-Gold Skating Skills at the Wallace Figure Skating Club’s Virtual Test Session on Dec. 1.

Virtual test sessions allow skaters to record their tests at the Stern Sports Arena and submit video for virtual judging. Poppy Schuler passed Pre-Preliminary Skating Skills, Paisyn Hammond passed the Fiesta Tango (completing the Pre-Bronze Dance Tests) and the Hickory Hoedown, Tessa Snyder passed the Ten-Fox and Hickory Hoedown, Adelaide King passed the Foxtrot (completing the Pre-Silver Dance Tests), the first of the Pre-Bronze Dances, and Emma Klein passed the Tango at the in-person test session at Moorhead Sports Center on Dec. 5-6.

SVFSC’s Learn to Skate skaters started their competition season in Watertown, South Dakota at the 11th Annual WFSC Skate Games on Dec. 13. Skaters competed in up to six events, including free skate, compulsory, jumps, spins, showcase, and interpretive.

On Dec. 21, the SVFSC Skaters performed in their Holiday Exhibition “Rockin’ Through the Holidays.” Learn to Skate skaters showed their new skills while skating to holiday favorites. Advanced skaters skated their competition pieces for the local crowd of more than 350 spectators, coaches, and volunteers. Santa, The Grinch and Snow Plow Sam all made an appearance in the exhibition.

Admission to the exhibition was again a free will donation to the Richland-Wilkin Food Pantry. Four figure skaters delivered the donation of $1,000 and 243 pounds of food to the Food Pantry on Dec. 23.
