Huskies off to competitive start with 1-1 showing at Shootout on the Prairie

The Wahpeton girls basketball team is off to a competitive start, opening the 2025-26 season with a 1-1 showing at the Shootout on the Prairie in Minot.

The Lady Huskies topped Bottineau, 63-43, before falling to Dickson Trinity, 50-49, in a barnburner to close out the weekend.

Claire Woods and Piper Nelson scored 17 points apiece in the season-opening win, combining to shoot a crisp 14 of 26 from the field. Nelson made half of her six 3-point shots and led the team with five assists and five steals. Woods pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists.

Joining the duo in double figures was Ella Langenwalter with 12 points.

Defensively, Cambri Mauch, Gracie Falck, Taylor Mauch and Ashlynne Max collected two steals each.

Woods was the only Husky to reach double digits with 15 points in the tight loss to Trinity. Nelson hit a pair of threes on her way to nine points and Max scored seven.

Cambri Mauch pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and Nelson paced the passing effort with four assists.

Weather permitting, the Lady Huskies host Lisbon in their home opener Tuesday night.
