The Breckenridge Cowgirls opened their 2025 season at Heart O’ Lakes Conference rival Perham on Thursday, falling to the Yellowjackets in a 77-69 overtime battle.
Senior guard/forward Parker Yaggie carried the Cowgirls with 18 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Yaggie burrowed her way into the paint often, drawing several fouls and converting 10 of 12 free-throw attempts. She also drilled a three from 28 feet during the OT period.
Senior point guard Emily Gowin returned to the court after missing last season with a knee injury. Gowin made up for lost time immediately, draining her first two shots from beyond the arc as Breckenridge built a 20-10 lead. Gowin closed the contest with 14 points and looked lightning quick on both sides of the basketball.
Junior center Sienna Fobb posted a formidable two-way performance, scoring nine points on 4-of-6 shooting and pulling down eight rebounds. Her elbow jumper at the end of regulation sent the game to OT tied at 60-60.
Perham’s outside shooting, coupled with unforced turnovers in the bonus period, ultimately sank the Cowgirls. Breckenridge held an eight point lead with 5:30 left in regulation, but Regan Hemberger stepped up to close the gap. Hemberger hit four clutch threes on the night to account for all 12 of her points.
Greta Raser paced the Yellowjackets with 18 points, six rebounds and six assists. Kaia Anderson added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Breckenridge will host another HOL powerhouse, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, when the Cowgirls open their home slate Tuesday night.
