DEWITT, NY — The top-seeded North Dakota State College softball team made quick work of eighth-seeded Surry on Wednesday, cruising to an 11-0 opening-round win at the NJCAA DIII World Series.
The Wildcats (50-13-1) racked up 10 hits across five innings in the victory. NDSCS, making its fifth-consecutive appearance at the World Series, reached 50 wins for the second straight season.
Emma Johnson went 2-for-2 with a home run and six RBIs. Caitlyn Dannenfelzer drove in three and scored three times herself. Kendyl Moss added a pair of RBIs and two additional runs.
Grace Folkema was precise inside the circle. The sophomore allowed just four baserunners through as many innings, striking out five along the way.
Heeley Taylor fired a scoreless fifth to end the game early via mercy rule.
The Wildcats second-round contest vs. fifth-seeded Hudson Valley is postponed until 11 a.m. Thursday due to inclement weather.
