NDSCS continues tough schedule, splits with Moberly

The North Dakota State College of Science softball program continued its gauntlet schedule to open the season, picking up a split against Moberly Area in Missouri. The Lady Wildcats cruised to a 13-3 victory before dropping game two in a 7-6 battle in Sunday’s doubleheader.

Ava Howard collected three hits in the 10-run victory, while Kendyl Moss, Rayelle Cooley and Jessi Matthews tallied two hits apiece.

NDSCS unleashed a 10-run seventh to blow a 3-2 contest wide open.

Grace Folkema (3-1) stretched out to six innings in game one, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven. Emma Johnson closed the game with a scoreless seventh.

Moberly got revenge in game two, earning the split in walk-off fashion. Moberly statistics were unavailable as of Monday morning.

Meridith Frey and Caitlyn Dannenfelzer supplied two RBIs each in the loss. Dannenfelzer ripped a triple and Moss hit a double.

Emma Stewart allowed five runs across two innings. Johnson covered four-plus innings, allowing one earned run on a hit and three walks.

NDSCS (7-7-1) faces another top-tier opponent Monday, traveling through Kansas for a doubleheader against Highland Community College.
