The Breckenridge Cowgirls (17-5) took down Barnesville (14-6) on Tuesday, 74-70, to move into a first-place tie with the Trojans in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (18-5) and Pelican Rapids (17-5) are also tied for the top spot with four losses in Heart O’ Lakes Conference play.
Tuesday marked the fifth straight victory for Breckenridge, who is ranked No. 5 in the Minnesota Basketball News rankings and No. 4 in the Minnesota-Scores QRF amongst 148 teams in Class 1A girls basketball.
Breckenridge led by 20 points in the home win, before holding off a furious second-half rally to lock down their ninth HOL victory in 13 tries.
The Cowgirls were led by 16 points from Johnica Bernotas, 15 from Ava Jaehning, 14 from Parker Yaggie and 10 from Sydni Roberts. Piper Jaehning scored nine points and Mariah Koltes contributed six.
Yaggie pulled down her 668th career rebound in the win, passing Grace Conzemius for number one all-time in Cowgirls history.
Abby John paced Barnesville with 22 points and Ava Follingstad added 12. Sophie Frederick nailed a trio of triples for her nine points.
