The Wahpeton boys basketball team doubled up their opponents’ score in an 80-40 home win over the Fargo Oak Grove Grovers on Tuesday. Wahpeton improved to 4-3 and sent the Grovers to 2-7.
Brayden Steffens punished the Grovers in a variety of ways, ending the night with a career-high 28 points.
“An offensive explosion for Brayden Steffens with 28 points including four 3s and seven boards,” Huskies head coach Jeff Ralph said.
Bjorn Kubela and Jack Gilbertson joined Steffens in double figures with 14 and 13, respectively, in the Division “A” rout.
“Good to see Bjorn in double figures with 14 and also two made 3s to go along with his five assists and two boards,” Ralph said.
The Huskies received contributions across the box score, including strong stretches of play by Jackson DeVries and Landon Ralph to accompany a suffocating defensive effort from Treyton Mauch.
“We were also pleased with Treyton’s play on the top of our press and his eight rebounds. Landon and Alex Comings gave us good minutes off the bench and provided good interior defense,” Ralph added.
Next up for the Huskies is the annual Border Battle against the Breckenridge Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Blikre Activities Center. Coverage begins at 4:45 on B 92.7 FM and KBMW News Live YouTube.
