Breckenridge flexed its muscles as the No. 1 seed in Section 6A volleyball playoffs, sweeping No. 8 seed Battle Lake on Wednesday by set scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-10
Jaelie Ernst, middle hitter, and Kolle Schuler, setter, shared Essentia Health Player of the Game honors. Ernst sparked the Cowgirls with a pair of kills following a stagnant start to the match, and Schuler did the same with two timely service aces.
Katlyn Kaehler (17 kills) and Sydni Roberts (12 kills) spearheaded the outside attack, proving too powerful for Battle Lake as the match progressed. Roberts completed the double-double with 13 digs and tied AdaLia Spear for the team lead with three aces.
Parker Yaggie tallied 21 assists followed by 14 from Schuler.
Breckenridge leaned on its roster depth to wear down the battlers, finishing the night with a new-look lineup that included Ellie Breuer, Piper Jaehning, Jozie Wienbar and Mariah Koltes.
The Cowgirls improved to 24-4, setting up a second-round home match at 7 p.m. Friday against No. 4 seed New York Mills. Turner Blaufuss will have the call on B 92.7 FM.
