Wahpeton Post 20 continued to face formidable competition in the east region when they split a road doubleheader with the West Fargo Aces at Young Field on Tuesday.
Wahpeton lost the opener, 6-5, on a walk-off single in the seventh inning by Austin Ohleen, before winning the second contest by a 7-2 score.
The Aces tagged Wahpeton for 15 hits in game one, while Wahpeton tallied 11 hits of their own in a North Dakota Class ‘A’ shootout.
Jayden King was charged with two earned runs across five innings. The lefty allowed 10 hits while striking out five batters. Braxton Pauly was saddled with the loss after allowing five hits and three runs in the seventh.
Caden Rademacher allowed three earned runs across six innings. The West Fargo pitcher racked up nine strikeouts to one walk and navigated his way around nine hits. Jett Collins was credited with the win after holding Wahpeton scoreless in the seventh.
Caden Kappes and Skyler Bladow combined to stifle the Aces in game two. Kappes started on the bump and allowed three hits and two runs across four innings. Bladow was excellent in relief, firing three scoreless innings.
Post 20 heated up with the temperatures, getting doubles off the bats of Jackson Fliflet, King, Bladow and Kappes.
