The Breckenridge Cowboys remain alive in the Section 6A Baseball Tournament after a 1-1 showing last week. Thursday, Breckenridge lost a close one against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, 4-1, before rebounding with an 11-6 victory over Brandon/Evansville on Friday.

Breckenridge and Brandon/Evansville were tied at 5-5 through two innings, but a five-spot in the third was exactly what the Cowboys needed to take control.

Cooper Roberts doubled for the game’s only extra-base hit, finishing 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs at the plate. Jaxson Lopez was a key batter in the No. 9 hole, going 1-for 2 with two walks, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Quenten Lugert was 0-for-1, but managed to draw three walks and score twice. Riley Kappes and Logan Church also manufactured two runs each despite going hitless.

On the mound, Gabe Armitage allowed four earned runs across one and 2/3 innings. Ernst earned the victory in relief by scattering three hits and one run through four and 1/3 frames. Lopez pitched a clean seventh to help Breckenridge advance.

The Cowboys play Tuesday in Browerville. Stay tuned to for more information.
