In one of the higher profile visits Breckenridge-Wahpeton has seen in recent history, Jesse Ventura will make a one-hour appearance beginning noon Saturday, June 1 at Green Apple Cannabis in Breckenridge.
Green Apple is an “alternative & holistic health service” located on Minnesota Avenue. An event listing on their Facebook page reads:
“In addition to this special visit, we are proud to feature Jesse Ventura’s new line of Jesse Ventura Farms edibles. This is your chance to get firsthand insights from Governor Ventura and explore his own brand of gummies and chocolates!”
Ventura, 72, is a former pro wrestler, author, Hollywood actor, United States Navy veteran and the 38th governor of Minnesota.
Ventura ran for governor in 1998 under the Reform Party and shocked the nation by grabbing 37 percent of the vote, defeating Republican nominee Norm Coleman and democratic choice Skip Humphrey in a historic win for third-party politics.
Prior to his Governor win, Ventura served as the Mayor of Brooklyn Park from 1991-95 after defeating the city’s 18-year incumbent mayor.
Ventura left the Reform Party a year after taking office and served the remainder of his term as a member of the Independence Party of Minnesota. Two of Ventura’s successful initiatives during governorship included the construction of the METRO Blue Line light rail in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area and income tax cuts.
Nicknamed “The Body” during his wrestling career, Ventura was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004. His entertainment career expanded to acting, highlighted by major roles in the films “Predator” and “The Running Man.”
Ventura served in the United States Navy from 1969-1975 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Navy Underwater Demolition Team during the Vietnam War.
Since leaving public office, Ventura has been a vocal opponent of many national and international issues including, but not limited to, interventionist foreign policies, the Patriot Act, the two-party political system and cannabis prohibition.
