Breckenridge’s volleyball team was swept by Bethlehem Academy on Thursday in the Cowgirls’ first state tournament appearance since 1980. The Cardinals claimed the set wins by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-14.

The highlight of the match was Carcie Materi recording her 1,000th assist. The feat is even more impressive considering she has been splitting time at the setter position her entire high school career. Materi is the third Breckenridge player to reach 1,000 assists, joining her coach Margaret Wilson and Brooke Busse. She ended the match with 16.

All-State hitter Camryn Kaehler was the kill leader for Breckenridge with 11 in the loss. Abby Johnson followed with eight.

Riley Finkral had 27 digs and Johnson had 25.

The 29-3 Cowgirls advance to the consolation bracket and look to keep their season alive against South Ridge at 1 p.m. The pregame show begins at 12:30 p.m. on B92.7 FM.
