The Breckenridge Cowgirls volleyball team finished first in their weekend tournament hosted in Pelican Rapids.

Breckenridge took on five teams in the round-robin tournament and each of the matches consisted of two sets. The Cowgirls won nine of their 10 sets to be crowned champions.

Their 2-0 sweeps came against Battle Lake, Rothsay, Lake Park-Audubon and Pelican Rapids. The lone split was against Fergus Falls Hillcrest, but Breckenridge won the match by having a larger win differential. The Comets took the first match 25-17 and the Cowgirls responded with a 25-8 victory.

In the opening match, Breckenridge bested Battle Lake 25-8 and 25-19. Camryn Kaehler had 10 kills to lead the way.

The Rothsay sweep consisted of a pair of 25-11 victories. Carcie Materi was one ace shy of tying the school record for aces in a match with eight.

The third match was against a foe Breckenridge had already played: LPA. The result was the same as the Cowgirls swept with both of the sets being 25-17 wins. Abby Johnson was the ace leader this time around with four while Sophie Larson had three.

The Hillcrest match was another balanced effort with Kaehler once again leading the way in kills with eight.

The final match was against the Cowgirls’ conference foes in the Vikings. The first win was a 25-17 victory and BHS capped off the weekend with a dominant 25-7 victory. Johnson tied Materi’s new career high with eight aces, also falling one short of tying the school record.

Lauren Beyer had three assisted blocks and a solo in the final match of the weekend.

Breckenridge is 8-0 and their next match is a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday home bout with Underwood.
