BISMARCK, N.D. (Ag News 890) – The North Dakota Beef Commission (NDBC) celebrated “May is Beef Month” in North Dakota. The month-long celebration recognized the beef industry’s vital contribution to North Dakota’s economy and beef’s role in providing essential nutrients to consumers.

A variety of promotions and activities took place during Beef Month. The NDBC partnered with the North Dakota CattleWomen to host a virtual 5K run with 162 participants. The North Dakota CattleWomen donated the proceeds from the event to the “Build Your Base” program, a sports nutrition program that utilizes beef as a premium protein. In conjunction with North Dakota State University Extension, the NDBC hosted an Instant Pot virtual cooking lesson on Facebook and reached more than 1,600 people. In celebration of National Beef Burger Day and to show support of restaurants that highlight beef on their menu, the first annual Best Beef Burger in North Dakota contest was held via social media. Finishline Burgers & Brews of Velva, N.D. was named the contest winner.

Throughout the month, Cash Wise Foods stores in select locations across the state also held Beef Month promotions to excite consumers, making beef center of their grill. NDBC also reached out to consumers daily through social media content focused on grilling tips, recipes and beef production sustainability.

North Dakota produces more than 822 million pounds of beef annually and contributes annual cash receipts from beef cattle sales totaling $2.575 billion. Beef Month also recognized the dedication of North Dakota’s beef producers to raising high-quality, wholesome and nutritious beef that feeds the world.

“Celebrating Beef Month in North Dakota is important to promoting the beef industry and the hard work of the state’s beef producers,” says Nancy Jo Bateman, NDBC executive director. “The many promotions and events that were held during May also helped consumers recognize the quality of North Dakota beef and its importance to their diet.”

The NDBC, representing North Dakota beef producers, manages the state beef checkoff program with the mission of enhancing beef demand by strengthening consumer trust and exceeding consumer expectations. This is accomplished through programs and activities in the areas of promotion, research and consumer information. For additional information on Beef Month activities and the NDBC, visit ndbeef.org.
