The Breckenridge Cowboys and Wahpeton Huskies split a doubleheader at Cowboy Field on Saturday.

Breckenridge won 3-0 in the first game with Wahpeton winning 12-6 in the second.

The games were the first of the spring for Breckenridge while Wahpeton had only played two.

In the opener, Cowboys’ senior Cooper Yaggie gave up just four hits and struck out 13 over 7 innings to get the win.

The Breckenridge offense collected 11 hits in its first game. Cam Nieto had two, including a home run, while Yaggie, Jayce Werner, Collin Roberts and Conner Twidwell all had two hits. Roberts and Connor Twidwell each drove in a run.

The Huskies used three pitchers in the first game as no Wahpeton pitcher went more than two innings throughout the doubleheader. Tori Uhlich started and gave up a run, as did Caden Hockert and Nick Zach.

The second game had far more offense with both teams combining for 24 hits and 18 runs.

Wahpeton scored in every inning but the second for its 12 runs.

Jackson Fliflet went 4 for 5 in the game with four runs batted in while Caden Kappes and Hockert each had two hits with  Hockert driving in two runs.

Jayden King started for Wahpeton with Mason Thom getting the win in relief. Kappes and Keegan Unruh also pitched for the Huskies.

Cam Nieto went 4 for 4 for the Cowboys, including hitting his second home run of the doubleheader.

Twidwell took the loss for the Cowboys, giving up four runs in three innings.

Wahpeton next plays at Grand Forks Central in an EDC game at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Breckenridge hosts Wheaton-Herman-Norcross on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
