Most of the Red River Valley is forecast to have either minor or little flooding in a Spring Flood Outlook by the National Weather Service in Grand Forks on Thursday.
With a dry late summer and fall, most of the residual soil moisture was diminished according the NWS. And with an outlook as of Jan. 28 of a very low threat for significant snowmelt, flooding could be similar to the spring of 2018.
Frost depths continue near normal for the region with a light snowpack.
The Wahpeton-Breckenridge area of the Red River is listed as having a minor flood risk level while the res of the Red River Valley to the north has a 50-50 chance of seeing no flooding this spring.
The NWS did say there will likely be near normal temperatures, but a somewhat wetter late winter, early spring period, which could increase the risk for late-season heavy snow or rainfall.
The next update will be on Feb. 11.
