The Richland-Wilkin County Joint Powers Authority and the Fargo-Moorhead Metro Diversion project came to a settlement this week after battling for eight years on a proposed diversion project around the Fargo-Moorhead Area.
The settlement now will allow the $2.75 billion project to proceed.
The agreement will include provisions that could provide compensation for the subdivisions that run in Wilkin and Richland County.
It also contains funding for infrastructure in the upstream cities of Comstock, Wolverton, Christine and Georgetown.
The 22-mile diversion will send excess water from the Red River during floods west of the Fargo-Moorhead area and reconnect at Georgetown.
