The Minnesota State High School League on Monday approved to return high school football and volleyball to their fall sports season at a special meeting of the Board of Directors.

The football season will begin with a two-week practice period starting on Sept. 28 and a six-week schedule starting the weekend of Oct. 9-10. The season will end on Nov. 28.

With that current timeline, it seems unlikely there will be a full postseason available with three section games and three state games.

The board said finalization of scheduling will be done in the next couple of days.

The vote to move football back to the fall was 15-3.

The volleyball season will begin on Sept. 28 with 10 days of preseason practice, followed by an 11-week season starting on Oct. 8 with 14 dual competitions available.

The MSHSL initially made the decision to move the fall sports to the spring and the spring sports to the summer back in August.

No decisions were discussed for the winter sports season. Those will be brought up in the next MSHSL board meeting on Oct. 1.
